Self-established Rules

Recently, I've been a little paranoid that my writing has been taking a dip in quality, which is why I have now decided to establish some rules for my posts (you commentators don't have to follow these, but please call me out if I break them). They are:
  • First things first, use correct grammar and spelling.
  • No sentence should start with the words 'I', 'my', or 'the'. Dialogue and quotes are excepted.
  • 'Very' and 'really' should not be used more than once in a paragraph respectively.
If you have any suggestions on these rules, please post them in the comments. Also, should I come up with some new ones of my own, I shall update these rules in a future post.

Thank you very much.

The Library

The library at my school is probably my favourite section of the building. It has bore witness to me cracking open a Harry Potter book for the first time in about a decade, been the host of many a game of Destiny (a card game that one of my friends claims to have invented, which we are continually revising), been the source of a Maths textbook (I don't own one myself), sheltered me and my fellow fasting friends (alliteration, yes!) from the tempting scents of food matter, a place where I complete my homework, where I sometimes go online for comic reliefs (also where I introduced my friend to the greatness that is Blogging Eclipse) and, well, there's this girl. And I mainly talk to her there. Anyway.

It's a pretty awesome place.

However, this past week, it has been closed, as it is home to the Year 12 trial exams. Needless to say, I'm feeling a bit lost without it. Sure, there's the common room (perk of being a year 11/12), but it just doesn't have the same feel. And it's not just me! There are many people who are left reeling for a place to sit and hang out (and maybe study a little).

Library, we miss you so. Can't wait to see you again next term!

A Heartfelt Letter

Note: I don't expect any of you to understand a word I'm saying here.

Proud. Loyal. Passionate.

These are the three words that the Fremantle Football Club uses to describe its fans and that is exactly what we are. It's not easy being a Freo fan - apart from the odd glimmer of hope here and there, our results in the AFL have been mediocre at best. In 15 years of existence, we have only managed a total of six games in September, never having won consecutively. If we supporters can look past that and stay true, you know we're the real deal.

My first visit to the MCG did not turn out quite as expected, with Geelong having smashed the Dockers by 69 points in the semi-final match. In spite of the rather lacklustre display, I was reminded of the season that had been. Compared to their 15th placing in 2009, managing a home final by finishing 6th after 22 rounds is admirable. This is largely due to a group of first and second year players who, while they still seek consistency, provide flair and speed to the Dockers' game. Things are definitely looking up.

We Freo fans know what it's like to be disappointed.

We know what it's like to have our hearts broken.

But someday, hopefully soon, we will know what it's like to be victorious.

Go the Dockers!

A Follow-up

I was in an exceptionally cynical mood yesterday when I posted the weather post, even going as far as predicting a Spring day would reach a whopping 40 degrees. I was not serious when I said that (if a Spring day did, in fact, reach 40 degrees, I would pretty much pack my bags and get to the rocket to the moon which I apparently have, as it would signal the end of the world). So sorry about that.

On a related topic, apparently Melbourne's weather reads my blog! Today was absolutely beautiful, if only a little chilly. Keep it up, weather!

Don't You Dare Mention the 'S' Word

So it's apparently Spring now. So that must explain the constant rainfall, the unrelenting winds and the chills cold enough to shiver the bones of the most resilient locals. Yes, is that spring?

I do understand that this is still the first week and that there should be some transition period, but it's not really much of a transformation if it's still all wintery all the bloody time.

Then again, this is Melbourne. It's probably gonna be 40 degrees (104 to you Americans) tomorrow.

That is all.

Progress

Hey, guess what?

I've been in Melbourne for two months. TWO MONTHS!

You may also have, by now, discovered my liking of the 'enter' button.

I can't help it.

Aaaanywho, I find it a little strange (and somewhat comforting) that this city sort of feels like home now. I can find my way around my general vicinity without thinking too much, I have things to look forward to - and dread - at school (example 1: robot Physics teacher who is of very little help to his students) and I've now been invited to mundane things! Like playing football at lunch (I had to decline due to my fasting) and being taught a secret card game (though it's not so secret anymore, I was among the first to know)! Also, I am now able to immerse myself in the world of Harry Potter (I'm up to Chapter 3 of Chamber of Secrets) courtesy of the school library (you might also have discovered my liking of parentheses). If it weren't for the bucketload of homework that I shall be working on next week, my life would be perfect.

Until next time.
